Dressing For The Weather.

It was back to Grand Rapids for me this weekend. Jordan and I ventured downtown for the local art festival and some coffee- of course. Although recently I've been opting for tea, and peppermint has been my favorite.

Regardless, I had been hoping for warm and sunny weather this weekend, but of course that didn't happen. I was welcomed with cloudy skies and a ton of wind. Luckily, my outfit was easily adjusted to accommodate the change in weather.

Dress- Rue 21

If the weather had been ideal- I would have done without the jacket and possibly swapped the ankle boots for a wedged or flat sandal. Luckily I always pack interchangeable pieces when I travel, and this jacket is a staple. I pair it with almost anything. It looks very similar to the jacket I wore in my Chicago post, but this is olive green and has studded accents. I also prefer the bigger pockets on this one as well as the cinched waist. The cinched waist is one of the main parts of this outfit because it keeps a flattering silhouette since the dress is very flowy. Due to my height I get lost in clothes easily. The dress photographed awesome with it on because the wind blew just the right parts so I didn't look like I was wearing a parachute.

The boots work well with this outfit because the fringe adds a bohemian vibe that carries into the spring and summer months very well. Mixed with a colorful summertime print you wouldn't even think they were part of a winter/fall clothing collection.

I'm smaller chested than some so pairing the low neckline of the dress with a lace bralette works for me, but other people may feel they need more coverage. I love mixing and matching a thin, layering racerback tank with a sundress that has a different cut in the back. If you want a more modest vibe, a full coverage solid tank would do the trick, if you want to still have coverage and support but give off more of a casual vibe, rock a lace tank top or a bandeau.

Rue 21 is a great store for a cheap thrill on lots of clothing items, but the downside is not everything is the best quality. When washing items you know are of inexpensive materials, hang them up to dry (they are more prone to shrinkage in the hot dryer) and use gentle cycles on your washing machine. Another downside I find when shopping there is that not everyting is my style. Even though some pieces in a store may not be your style, find one that you love and mix it with items you already own to give it the vibe you want. The same idea can be said of the fit of certain items. I'm sure on anyone with a larger chest or someone who was taller this dress would look completely different. Just because you have a certain body type doesn't mean you're limited in what you can wear! Play up your favorite parts about yourself and be confident!
